_ About Alagael

32 chaptersGPL v3Fan-made project

Alagael takes its name, and its idea, from Snowmoon, a 32-chapter science-fiction novel by Vitalik Buterin, published in September 2026 under the GPL v3 license [1][4]. The novel follows Veridia, a city-state that runs on cryptography and decentralized governance, in its ideological conflict with the Arctic Empire, a centralized surveillance regime [4].

THE IDEA

THE ROBE · CHAPTER 1THE HERALD · CHAPTER 6

In Veridia, the people who steer the city's taxes belong to the Order of Steering. When they do their work they wear a dark purple Privacy Robe that covers them from hood to ankle, so nobody knows who they are, and nobody can bribe or pressure them [2].

When their time is over, some of them become Heralds. A Herald speaks openly about how they thought and decided, but only "after they no longer have any power", so there is nothing left to influence [3]. One of them is named Alagael.

Alagael brings that rule into your own life. While you live, your secrets wear the robe: split, sealed, unreadable. When you are gone, they become your Herald, and finally speak to the people you chose.
